Lion Rock Rou Gui - A Grade

$20.00

Simply meaning “cinnamon” due to its uniquly sweet spice-forward fragrance, Rou Gui is one of the most famous and highly sought after rock oolong teas. Its cultivation dates back to at least the 1700’s, and is today one of the most widely propagated varietals in the Wuyishan area.

This is a very high grade Rou Gui, grown in the Qing Shi Yan mountain farm, on relatively flat terrain and with a healthy amount of sunlight. It was then processed in the traditional manner, roasted 4 separate times over charcoal (many modern rock oolongs are baked in an electric oven). As we have noted in the past, it is best to let these teas rest for one year before drinking in order to let the roast flavor dissipate. It has a particularly powerful Yan Yun (“rock feeling” - 嚴韵), with classic notes of cinnamon, cloves, wet gravel, and dried dark fruit. This is a truly complex tea one will not get bored of drinking, a real connoisseur’s oolong.
