Rou Gui - Gold Medal
Rou Gui - Gold Medal
Simply meaning “cinnamon” due to its uniquely sweet spice-forward fragrance, Rou Gui is one of the most famous and highly sought after rock oolong teas. Its cultivation dates back to at least the 1700’s, and is today one of the most widely propagated varietals in the Wuyishan area.
This tea placed first in the 2022 Northern Fujian Tea Competition (Tian Fu Bei Tea Competition), beating hundreds of other lots to be considered the “ideal” Rou Gui oolong. Its taste is sweet, dense, and spice-forward. The roast is strong but not overpowering. It is an extremely balanced tea which displays the best qualities Rou Gui is famous for - rock bones, fragrance, and lingering sweetness.
