Black Orchid
Black Orchid
This black Mi Lan Xiang or “Honey Orchid Aroma”, is a unique and highly aromatic tea which comes to us from the Phoenix mountains in Guangdong, from tea bushes about 100 years old. As a black tea, it is somewhat richer and slightly sweeter than the more lightly oxidized version. It hits up front with a pungent floral aroma before filling the mouth with sweetness and leaving an aftertaste suggestive of dark cherries and malted honey. A highly complex and enjoyable black tea, it would make a great choice for an oolong-lover looking for something with a little more heft.
Home to numerous single cultivars, Phoenix mountain teas are distinctive for their emphasis on the character of the specific tea-bush, though they are usually left semi-oxidized.
