Trident Wild Assam
Trident Wild Assam
This is a very sophisticated whole-leaf Assam black tea suitable for both gong-fu and western style tea brewing. It has many of the attributes of classic mass-market Assam teas - it is thick, with a robust malty sweetness, but being hand-crafted from older wild teas and left in its whole leaf form it has much more complexity than a chopped and cut tea bag Assam. Initial steepings are more delicate, with subtle sweetness and lemon-zest, while later steepings are more burly and woodsy with pronounced sweet-toffee and honey notes. If you’ve ever wanted to try a more elevated style from one of the world’s most famous tea growing regions, this is your chance.
Assam sits at the foothills of the Himalayas, in a large tropical region which extends through Myanmar and southern China and is the biological birthplace of tea. Tea was historically consumed by the indigenous tribes, when in the 19th century the British colonizers began cultivating these wild tea plants in an attempt to circumvent China’s monopoly on tea. This tea was sourced from a local farming cooperative which focuses on organic farming and sustainable practices.
