Candlelight Poetry & Experimental Open Mic Hosted By Edy Guy

  • Trident Booksellers & Cafe 940 pearl street Boulder, CO 80302 USA (map)

Poetry's hot! Do you read it? Write it? Wonder what the heck the hype is about? Curious if you can learn to decipher the emotional drive behind each and every odd stanza written by beloved poets here in Colorado? There's nothing like seeing poetry embodied on-stage and sharing in the mutual curiosity and passion for the vital topics poetry examines. Sometimes showing up to an open-mic is simply a bridge into a wonderful and quirky conversation you've been dying to have. Poetry is sexy, essential, and fun. Open-mics should be too. So, on October 13th from 7-9pm expect Cardi B, candlelight, and you in the spotlight for 5-7 minutes sharing poems you've written or poems you love (if you choose to read - no pressure!). Come one, come all for this experimental hump day treat!

Edy is a Poet and Creative writer, editor, strategist, and director local to Boulder. She's gone to quite a few local open-mics in her day, wherein she thought to herself hmmm this could be sexier and more fun! which is why she's hoping to give hosting one a try (but please be nice if it's not sexy and fun because she's also a bit terrified as well). Edy is the author of the poetry manuscript Mother May I (awaiting publication), which "takes a long, hard look at what it means to be a woman in 21st century American society. In a voice that is blunt and darkly wise, Guy torques the mother metaphor toward every possible direction of undoing. This work is funny, sexy, smart, and unapologetically feminist" (Rexilius). She's the author and owner of Lacuna Matata, an on-going newsletter that's part critique, part poetic investigation on various topics. Edy is excited to read alongside you.
