Based on the 1973 musical stage production, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," with music, book, and lyrics by Richard O'Brien, remains a queer cinematic milestone. It is the longest-running theatrical release in film history, and regarded by many as one of the greatest musical films of all time. Spotlighting local drag artists and performers, Fae brings Faers own unique spin and adaptation featuring an intersectional all queer (LGBTAQIA+) cast.
The production is a parody tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s-1960s, combining elements of unintentional dry humour, portentous dialogue of scholock-horror, Steve Reeves muscle flicks, and fifties rock and roll all come to life in this musical. Set against the backdrop of the glam era that had manifested itself in British popular culture in the 1970s. It embraces sexual liberation and androgyny, and a world to the self-discovery of "queer identity," with its unforgettable song-and-dance sequences, undoubtedly widening the sphere of possibilities for gender expression on Main Street. The rocky horror picture show has taught an entire generation to see queer identity and gender non-conformity as something to celebrate.
