Breaking onto the Boulder music scene this 3-headed collective brings a unique blend of alternative indie folk music to the area. Without a recorded single or EP this band is out to earn its stripes by putting their hearts, minds, and musical prowess on display for their fans and fellow musicians. With influences such as Bon Iver, Fleetwood Mac, Paramore and Kings of Leon, the TransRomantics provide a compelling and contemporary flavor to their music.
The band was formed in 2021 by long-time friends and Philadelphia natives, Carlisle Quinn and Ian Spellman. Their most recent addition includes the very talented Colorado native, Aspen McKinzie. Carlisle fronts the stage as a self-taught guitarist and singer/songwriter who turned to music at the age of 19 to unleash their inner voice and facilitate their personal growth. Beginning in 2015, Carlisle started Hormone Replacement Therapy, and had to develop an entirely new relationship with their voice and musical expression. Particularly within the last two years, and with the catalytic nature of the pandemic, Carlisle was forced to examine contentious and transformative relationships that inevitably became a part of his music. His thematic writing style focuses on identity, connection, mental health, substance abuse and spirituality.
Ian resides behind the drums as a self-taught drummer and current student of Physics and Mathematics at CU Boulder. Ian was raised in a diverse environment in Philadelphia and prides himself on being able to adapt to his surroundings, both musically and socially. His desire to create music collectively has opened his mind to many different styles of music, which is apparent when he’s in his instrumental element. Aspen holds it down as a folk-punk influenced bassist and quickly found their footing in the band with their varied playing styles and 20 years of musical experience. Providing a steady groove and positive attitude, Aspen feels that she can often express herself most effectively through music, which became especially important as she began her transition journey in late 2019.
The TransRomantics are thrilled to showcase their talent publicly for the first time and invite more future collaboration into their music by growing their band, recording and performing. They intend on releasing their first album in the next few months in 2022, using their growing platform to fund their musical ambitions. With their musical career just beginning, they’d love for you to join in on the ride by supporting their music in person and on Spotify; enabling them to tour and establish a meaningful connection with a wider audience. To truly understand the TransRomantics and where they’re headed, you needn’t look no further than their music itself.
