Anti-nostalgia is an act of resistance. MUSTACHE IN PLAIN SIGHT, a debut collection by Michael Buckius, confronts difficult realities through humor and absurdity, stark realism and directness. Working to neutralize trauma, these poems offer readers the distance to reproach complex and painful parts of being human: coming of age, addiction, domestic violence, and the mundane routines of everyday life. There is no returning to a so-called better time, However, in MUSTACHE IN PLAIN SIGHT, there is comedic longing in which readers might find themselves surprised, yet comforted, by the unexpected. These poems are strange and astute, extraordinary and unforgettable.
