Gaoshan Gushu White
Gaoshan Gushu White
Gaoshan village in Yunnan Province is famous as a terroir for pu’er teas, and is known for smooth, light, and floral flavor profiles especially. White teas, of course, are only minimally processed - they are sun dried and… that’s about it. As you can see from these leaves, no rolling was done, making them especially large and fluffy. That’s just fine though because it is an excellent way to showcase the flavor profiles of the large ancient tea trees these leaves were picked from. We taste stonefruit akin to ripe cherries, as well as some of the more typical pu’er notes such as honeysuckles and straw. These leaves are also semi-aged, having been in storage since the spring of 2020. We find that aging white teas such as this for a short period does tend to improve their flavor, increasing sweetness and muting the grassier notes.
