Sencha Okumidori
Sencha Okumidori
The late-budding Okumidori cultivar is one of Japan’s most grown tea varieties. It may be processed into Sencha, Gyokuro, or Match as desired. In addition to being resistant to late-Spring frosts, it is said to have a mellow taste and deep green character. Our Okumidori Sencha was grown at a relatively high elevation (for a Japanese tea) of over 1600 feet in sandy soil. It was unshaded and processed according to traditional medieval Japanese tea conventions.
This Okumidori Sencha is vibrant and robust. It is thick and vegetal but with a mellow and laid-back character. One of the more forgiving Sencha teas we’ve tried, it can stand up to a stronger brew than some of the more delicate Japanese Greens.
