Roasted Tie Guan Yin
Roasted Tie Guan Yin
Arguably the more classic style of Tie Guan Yin, this tea stands in sharp contrast to its green, unroasted counterpart which today is more widely consumed. Though roasted teas such as this lack the fresh springtime green and floral flavors, they make up for it in their rich, sweet, roasted, warming and nutty notes. Additionally, the roasting process ensures that these teas will improve with time, rather than losing flavor. Our roasted Tie Guan Yin is exquisitely well balanced between charcoal character, sweet milk chocolate, and pungent florals.
The name Tie Guanyin translates exactly to “Iron Avalokitesvara” who is the Bodhisattva of compassion in Buddhism, and refers to the varietal the tea is made from. Tie Guanyin is almost always tightly rolled, and can have a varied level of oxidation or roast. It is grown mainly in Anxi County, in Northern Fujian Provence.
