Song Zhong
Song Zhong
Song Zhong is a varietal crossbred from Shui Xian cultivars which dates back to the Song dynasty (hence the name). As a Dan Cong (单 枞) oolong, it must be harvested from a single grove of genetically identical tea bushes. Dan Cong teas are famous for their varietal and location-specific flavor and aroma profiles. The Song Zhong has a classic orchid taste, with a subtle white-fruit backdrop and light spice notes. Somewhat medium-bodied, this tea was roasted three separate times over charcoal in order to lock in the flavor and improve its shelf life (it should continue to improve with further aging in a dark and dry environment). As a classic Dan Cong oolong, this is a fragrance-forward tea which emphasizes “mountain feeling” (shan yun - 山韵) and lingering aftertaste. A good choice for tea lovers looking for something with energy and subtlety.
