Las Vegas Bootlegger: Empire of Self-Importance by Noah Cicero
Ryan Neroni is a lonely lawyer with bad breath. All his life he's had everything handed to him on a silver platter, but after winning what should have been a career-defining lawsuit, he discovers that what he really wants is to drive contraband across state lines in a fast car with tinted windows. With the help of Theresa Barahona, an innocent and aspiring multi-level marketing entrepreneur, nothing can get in his way. Not social expectations, not the emptiness of the western U.S., and certainly not a string of surreal experiences orchestrated by a shadow organization known only as "the Committee."
“I read Noah Cicero and remember that ‘hysterical’ can refer to something really funny and to a situation completely out of control. His work punches people in the face. Don’t get in its way.” - Daniel Handler AKA Lemony Snicket, author of A Series of Unfortunate Events
“[Cicero is] the deadpan prince of the indie-lit underground.” - Nevada Public Radio
“Las Vegas Bootlegger is philosophical, emotional, and tender. And innovative. Because there is an emotion gun in Noah Cicero’s book and a quasi-immobile figure who doesn’t eat or go to the bathroom and is named after a Stephen King character. Cicero has a way of making all love, especially romantic love, too illegal in a state that loves legality too much.” - Vi Khi Nao, author of Human Tetris and Sheep Machine.
Noah Cicero was born in 1980 in a field in Northeast, Ohio. He grew up in a small town with one stoplight. He has worked at restaurants and grocery stores. He attended Youngstown State University for Political Science and the College of Southern Nevada for Paralegal Studies. He currently works in litigation. Noah Cicero has a deep love for the judicial system. If you ever sit with him drinking a beer, he is just as likely to talk about Modernist novels as he is regarding how Civil Litigation works. He has taken part in seven trials, something he is proud of, exclusive of writing. He has approximately 10 books published and over half have been translated into several languages. He has done four international speaking engagements in Mexico, Chile, Peru, and South Korea. He has lived in South Korea teaching ESL; the Grand Canyon twice as a dishwasher and cashier; Oregon twice, both times as a shiftless person; and has been living in Las Vegas, Nevada since 2013. He hikes every Sunday. He has been to the bottom of the Grand Canyon four times.
